Fotheringhay, Peterborough PE8 5HZ, UK
Glancing at the details of the church building and monuments, you know you are in King Richard III country and a place with royal historic connections. The octagonal tower sparkles in the sunshine outside, while inside has the most fan-tastic vaulting. The font and pulpit are richly decorated.
Whilst on a countryside walk, we stepped into this lovely church and were so glad that we did. Although a working church, there is also space for a small museum and the story of the church from build until present day. As a Scot, I was very interested in the story of Mary Queen of Scots which is laid out for all to read. The box pews were particularly lovely. We spent around 30 minutes just reading and looking. Well worth a visit.
Elton, Peterborough PE8 6RU, UK
Just along the main road from Elton Hall we parked on the grass. Huge church & graveyard but a lot of the inside of the church has been ruined as usual by the Victorian's but still worth a visit. As you go in there's some info sheets on a table & it still has some artefacts that are 14c. One down side someone had dropped chewing gum on the gravel path which I trod on & is still on my shoe!
Church St, Warmington, Peterborough PE8 6TE, UK – 01832 281512
A church along the Nene Way route. The building reflects the guidance in the 13th century that encouraged the expansion of churches, with additional changes later too. Some green man pagan images in the roof bosses.
